OGUN ANCHOR BORROWERS’ COMMITTEE MEETS INPUT DEALERS, SUPPLIERS

The Ogun State Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP) Steering Committee had met with Input dealers and suppliers to fine-tune modalities for the successful implementation of the programme.
The Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Bola Okuneye said the meeting was aimed at ensuring that inputs provided by the dealers must be of high quality and quantity, in order to generate expected returns, noting that the unit price must be competitive and good enough for production of the various products.
Prof. Okuneye disclosed that the input suppliers and dealers have promised not only to serve the State but to lower the prices of their products, for the benefit of the farmers and the State government.
“We are making progress with our activities in the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme Steering Committee, the national and international, as well as the local suppliers, with a view to telling them what we expect from them, such as quality input and high level of coverage in the three Senatorial Districts”, Prof. Okuneye said.
The Chairman further revealed other services expected of the dealers in terms of demonstration of the products, handbills, enlightenment and training of farmers, to inform other farmers about their products and inputs, saying this would help link up other stakeholders with the performance of their products.
In a related development, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, expressed satisfaction at the on-going verification exercise of the Anchor Borrowers Programme across the 20 Local Government Areas in the State, as well as high turn-out of applicants.
Mrs. Ogunleye said the purpose of bringing the verification centers closer to the people was based on the State government’s resolve to leave no stone un-turned for the successful implementation of the programme.
