Bobby Lashley is now the new WWE champion after defeating The Miz via submission in a Lumberjack match on Monday Night Raw. Twitter.
The former United States army personnel had waited for many years before acquiring his first world heavyweight title in his sixth year with the WWE.
The 44-year-old became the third African American to put the gold around his waist after The Rock and Kofi Kingston.
It was not an easy ride for the member of The Hurt Buisness to clinch the WWE championship as it all started from the last pay-per-view event The Elimination Chamber.
Lashley and The Miz had an agreement that he would ambush former champion Drew McIntyre after he had won the Chamber match.
After the Lashley attacked McIntyre, The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and pinned the Scottish Psychopath to become the new champion.
In the past week on RAW, Lashley challenged The Miz for the title but The Awesome One asked for his belt to be defended in the next episode of the Monday Night show.
The Miz tried to escape his fate throughout WWE RAW and played a smart one by letting the referee count him out for Lashley to win the match on a count-out victory without the belt.
Shane McMahon then called for the main event to be a lumberjack match between Lashley and The Miz as the Real Deal won with a Hurt Lock submission move.
The coming weeks would determine who would headline Wrestlemania in April at McIntyre is favourite to be given another shot at his title.
