Bangladesh has brushed aside a request from the U.S. government to provide temporary relocation shelter to Afghans fleeing their country.
The Afghans worked for the U.S.-led entities in trouble-ridden Afghanistan, Bangladeshi foreign minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen said.
“We are already in trouble hosting 1.1 million refugees from Myanmar,” he said.
Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had, in a statement late Monday, urged all stakeholders in Afghanistan to maintain peace, calm and ensure the safety and security of all, including foreign nationals.
Bangladesh stated that it was observing the fast-evolving situation in Afghanistan, which, it believed, might impact the region and beyond, the ministry added.
“Bangladesh would be happy to continue to work with the people of Afghanistan and the international community for Afghanistan’s socio-economic development,” said the Bangladeshi government.
